One of the county’s artistic gems is the Appel Farm Art and Music Center. This 176-acre oasis of creative expression is located in Elmer and offers a variety of arts programming including concerts, a summer camp, an annual arts and music festival, children's performances, community projects, and arts classes for all ages.  Salem County is home to a number of talented artists who work in a variety of visual mediums. Art exhibits are staged at locations throughout the county by the Salem County Art League and the Salem County Arts Alliance.  Salem County’s history of intertwining arts and culture is on display at an assortment of interesting studios and galleries, each of which feature their own distinctive style. From riverfront studios in Elsinboro to the unique Ironstone Sculpture Garden in Alloway, we invite you to meet our talented artists and acquire a work for your own collection. Come in May and enjoy our annual studio and gallery open house tour, "Arts in Bloom." Next year's tour takes place May 21 and 22, 2011.

If performance art is your passion, musical presentations can be found at a number of large and small venues in the county including the 400-seat Sol & Jean Davidow Performing Arts Theatre at Salem Community College in Carney’s Point, and the intimate 240-seat Clare Rostan Appel Theatre in Elmer. Both venues feature excellent sight lines and acoustics, free parking, and easy access. Two annual must-see events for music lovers include the Appel Farm Arts & Music Festival in June and the Delaware Valley Bluegrass Festival on Labor Day Weekend. Salem County is also a destination for visitors exploring the wide variety of vineyards and wineries located throughout southern New Jersey. In fact, getting there can be half the fun as you travel beautiful tree-lined roads nestled between quaint area villages. Take a tour of our vineyards or try one of the exceptional local wines including our special Asian Pear wines. Since 1804, the public library has been an integral part of the county’s community life. Today, Salem County features five public libraries which are located in Elmer, Penns Grove, Pennsville, Salem, and Woodstown. They offer the traditional public library menu of services, including lending books, tapes, videos, and other materials; providing reference and reader's advisory services; and programming for both children and adults. |
